Held on a dairy farm in the Catskill Mountains upstate New York, the Woodstock music festival attracted over 400,000 music lovers. The 3-day event was held on Max Yagur's farm from August 15th -18th 1969 and featured legendary artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Santana, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jefferson Airplane, The Who and many others. After the concert, Max Yasgur saw the event as a victory for peace and love. He spoke of how nearly half a million people filled with potential for catastrophe, riot, and looting, spent the three days with music and peace on their minds. He stated, "If we join them, we can turn those adversities that are the problems of America today into a hope for a brighter and more peaceful future.
