The band from the Chicago suburb of Wilmette got its start in Chicago's hardcore punk scene. Fall Out Boy's debut album, Take This to Your Grave became an underground success and gave them a dedicated fan base. They had a major label breakthrough in 2005 with Under the Cork Tree, which yielded two hits,"Sugar, We're Goin Down" and "Dance, Dance" that both went double platinum, making them into superstars. Frontman Peter Wentz cites Green Day, the Ramones, Screeching Weasel, and Metallica as influences. Usually classified as pop-punk, they strike many critics as punk emo.
