Depeche Mode is an English band that spans across many different genres, including new wave, synth-pop, dance, electronic, and alternative rock. Despite their numerous lineup changes, Depeche Mode continued to be a force in the music industry for many years. While their earlier albums had painted them as a “teen band” in the UK, the band expanded and drastically shifted their style after the departure of primary songwriter Vince Clarke. After guitarist Martin Gore took over songwriting duties, Depeche Mode began to explore more adult themes, including sex, religion, and politics, all through a lens of isolation and overall melancholy. Depeche Mode continues to tour and release music today and found themselves inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
