The Dead Milkmen were a punk rock band from Philadelphia, formed in 1983. The group found a following in the Philadelphia hardcore scene, with their fast-paced punk rock sound combined with irreverent humor in their lyrics, often delivered with the thickest Philly accent they could muster. The Dead Milkmen’s debut album Big Lizard in My Backyard, released in 1985, found massive success on a college radio rotation, mostly on the strength of their first single, “Bitchin’ Camaro.” Their single “Punk Rock Girl” off of 1988’s Beelzebubba brought them international success, finding its way onto MTV and led to a short stint on a major label. The band broke up shortly after signing their major label contract and didn’t reunite again until 2008. After releasing The King in Yellow in 2011, The Dead Milkmen have continued to tour and release music sporadically.
