Green Day’s success is a classic tale of the American dream. After forming in a small town outside of Berkley, California in the late 80s, Green Day exploded from a successful act on the independent label, Lookout Records, to arguably one of the most popular bands of all time. Almost all of this success came on the backs of two of the most successful rock albums ever, 1994’s Dookie, a pop-punk masterpiece, and 2004’s American Idiot, a larger-than-life rock opera that took the world by storm. With 12 studio albums, 91 awards, and even a Broadway musical, Green Day brought their punk rock sensibilities from the hallowed halls of Berkley’s legendary club, 924 Gilman Street, all the way to selling out stadiums across the globe. Not bad for a trio of kids from the East Bay.
