A punk band from a little town outside of Berkeley/Oakland that makes it into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its first year of eligibility must be doing something right. From is beginnings as an alternative powerhouse on tiny Lookout Records to achieving mass popularity on a major label, Green Day has had a great run. Dookie, released on Reprise Records in 1994 was their breakthrough album and their recent successes with their Rock Opera American Idiot in 2010 and Revolution Radio in 2016, Green Day has come a long way from playing Berkeley's DIY Gilman Street venue to selling out stadiums ans arenas. American Idiot was made into a Broadway Musical, not something most of their original fans could have anticipated. They more or less put the punk in pop puck and have sold over 75 million albums along the way.
