Duane Allman, alongside his brother Gregg, formed The Allman Brothers Band, one of the most significant influences on the Southern rock genre. By mixing southern country, blues, and jazz into their music, the Allman Brothers Band found their commercial breakthrough in what is regarded as one of the best live albums of all time, 1971’s At Fillmore East. Unfortunately, Duane did not get to see the fruit of the work he and his brother put into the project, as he was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1971. Duane Allman was one of the most well-respected studio musicians of all time and was ranked the #2 guitar player of all time, behind only Jimi Hendrix, in a 2003 Rolling Stone poll.
