Born in Littlefield Texas on June 15th, 1937, Waylon Arnold Jennings was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who began playing the guitar at the age of eight. He worked at multiple radio stations as a DJ and his first band was called The Texas Longhorns. In 1958, rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly arranged Waylon's first recording session of the songs "Jole Blon" and "When The Sin Stops" and eventually hired Waylon to play the bass guitar. It has been told that Waylon gave up his seat on the plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and Jiles Perry (J.P. The Big Bopper) Richardson Jr. From 1985 to 1995 Waylon Jennings was a member of the supergroup The Highway Men along with music legends Johnny Cash, Wille Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. In 2001, Waylon Jennings was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the following year on February 13th, 2002 he passed away. In 2007 the Academy of Country Music posthumously awarded him the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award.
