Run DMC was voted the greatest rap group in history by MTV.com in 2007, and they have been one of the most successful hip hop acts worldwide since their founding in the very early 1980s. They were the first rappers to earn a gold record, the first to go platinum, and the first to be certified multi-platinum. Their record-breaking records made their music memorabilia, including music t-shirts and accessories, more sought after than most of their peers. They were the first hip hop group to have its videos on MTV and after recording “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith in 1986, they locked in their place as a major cross-over act.
