Frank Zappa is known as many things, including a musician, a composer, a filmmaker, and above all else, an activist. Zappa’s creative endeavors were often marked by improvisation, experimentation, and nonconformity. Zappa delved into many different genres of music over his 30-year career, including rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, and orchestral music, along with producing every album he released, both as a solo artist and with his band, The Mothers of Invention. During this time, Zappa also directed numerous music videos and full-length films and designed album covers. Many people believe that Zappa was one of the most creative, innovative, and diverse artists of all time. While his music was not well-received by critics, typically by his lack of emotional depth, Zappa’s music was widely regarded by a wide array of supporters. After his death in 1993, Frank Zappa was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
