Flash Gordon is the hero at the center of numerous comic strips, radio shows, stage productions, novels, TV shows, and movies since 1934. Flash Gordon was invented as an homage to and also to directly compete with the well-established Buck Rodgers comic strip. Flash Gordon stories have existed in a myriad of different forms of media, but none more recognizable than the 1980 film. While this film was not an immediate success, it has gone on to become a cult classic with one of the greatest theme songs of all time, performed by Queen. Flash Gordon’s sci-fi adventures were also the main inspiration for the first Star Wars movie. While the character’s popularity has waned in recent years, Flash Gordon’s legacy remains.
