This British rock trio, featuring drummer Ginger Baker, guitarist Eric Clapton, and lead singer/bassist Jack Bruce, is widely considered the world’s first massively successful supergroup. Cream continued to break barriers, their 1968 album Wheels of Fire became the first ever Platinum-selling double album. The band blended both modern and old-school blues music and, alongside Jimi Hendrix, popularized the use of the wah-wah pedal on their guitars. Their heavy style of music, alongside with their technical proficiency, would lay the groundwork for early metal bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. At the same time, they were significant influences on bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Rush. Cream was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and are consistently listed as one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
