CBGB was a music venue in Manhattan’s East Village. Upon opening its doors in 1973, the venue was envisioned to be a place for country, bluegrass, and blues music, hence giving it the name CBGB. This was not the life that CBGB lived. Instead, the venue became synonymous with the American punk rock and new wave scene of the late 70s and early 80s, with artists such as the Ramones, Patti Smith, and Blondie gracing its halls. From the 1980s and on, the venue became the holy land for American hardcore punk music. Despite valiant efforts by former patrons and artists, CBGB closed its doors in 2006.
