Bob Marley had initially been a member of The Wailers, a band that found success in its unique blend of ska, reggae, and rocksteady music. After they disbanded, Marley himself relocated to England after surviving a failed assassination attempt and began to pursue what would eventually become a massively successful solo career. His album Exodus in 1977 helped to propel Bob Marley into one of the best selling artists of all time, with over 75 million albums sold. His music promoted Rastafarianism and had a sense of spirituality that permeated every lyric. Marley’s music was wildly popular throughout the entire planet up until his untimely death in 1981. Since then, Marley has received countless awards posthumously, including his 1994 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
