Born out of Seattle, Washington in the late 80s, Alice in Chains became one of the big names in the grunge scene that took the world by storm in the early 90s. Coming up alongside bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, Alice in Chains set themselves apart with their implementation of a dual-vocal system with Layne Stanley and Jerry Cantell. The band was one of the most successful musical acts of the 90s, with two #1 albums, including acoustic EP Jar of Flies and their self-titled album, and 30 million albums sold, 14 million in the US alone. Vocalist Layne Stanley passed away in 2002, leaving the band on hiatus for a few years. After recruiting vocalist William DuVall in 2006, Alice in Chains has continued to record and tour, releasing three albums since all released to critical acclaim.
