The Blues Brothers are an American blues/soul revivalist band formed in New York City in 1978 by two brothers: lead vocalist Jake “Joilet” Blues and harmonica player Elwood Blues. They are also a two-man comedy sketch created by Saturday Night Live cast members John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. The band was comprised of former musicians alongside Belushi and Aykroyd and made their debut on SNL on April 22, 1978. Their success on the show leads to their debut album, Briefcase Full of Blues and a spot opening for the Grateful Dead. The Blues Brothers finally got their own comedy film in 1980. After the passing of Belushi, The Blues Brothers continued with a rotating cast of singers alongside Aykroyd for a 1988 world tour and ultimately culminated in a sequel, The Blues Brothers 2000, in 1998.
