Amy Winehouse was an English singer, using her wildly impressive voice in a blend of soul, R&B, and jazz music. Her debut album was very successful in the UK, but it was her sophomore album that propelled her into stardom. 2006’s Back to Black led the singer to 5 Grammy awards in 2008, including Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best New Artist. Those 5 Grammys at the time tied the record for most awards won in one night by a woman. Unfortunately, Winehouse’s career met a quick, painful end when the singer passed away in 2011 due to alcohol poisoning at the age of 27, joining the famous “27 Club” with other artists who met untimely ends such as Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. After her death, her music lives on as some of the most exceptional vocals of the decade.
